A blog. I never thought I would have a blog, but now I’m here.
In part, this is a personal experiment. Writing is more than just a hobby for me; it is something that I love, and need to do. Writing keeps me sane. To me, a blog seems to be wonderful mix of public and private writing: I am writing to someone other than myself, but that someone is anonymous and has no real bearing on what I write.
So that’s “musings.” The second part is, of course, “vegan.” I am writing about veganism because it is what I think about; it is what fascinates and excites me. Although I never liked meat, I have only been a vegetarian for about a year and a half, and have been transitioning to veganism for about a year. As of this year, I can unequivocally describe myself as a vegan.
My reasons for being vegan are primarily ethical: Given the knowledge, technology, and resources we now have access to, I do not believe there is any justification for human beings to exploit the bodies of other living creatures. However, I view veganism as a multifaceted concept, and I am compelled by many other reasons—environmentalism, health, social justice, and feminism, to name a few. It is my hope in this blog to record my own continuing journey into veganism, and to explore and discover the innumerable links between veganism and life as a whole. I want to show that veganism is not a single, distinct practice, but rather expansive, inclusive, and entirely relevant.
