I recently discovered vegansoapbox.com, a relatively new website that posts news/articles related to veganism. I think it’s a fantastic website because it covers a variety of very intellectual topics. As much as I love drooling over food pics that adorn so many vegan blogs, I really appreciate the more thoughtful, argumentative essays that Vegan Soapbox posts. [...]

hmmm…

So I’ve been thinking a lot lately about who I am “as a vegan” (that sounds so intense…) and trying to decide where I want to go with this blog. I’m feeling a lot of pressure–all indirect and mostly self-imposed–to be a “better,” “real,” and/or “perfect” vegan. I hate these sort of feelings of not [...]
Earthlings

Wow. I forgot how powerful this movie is. I watched the first half a couple months ago, but couldn’t finish it. SO upsetting. I re-watched most of it today.
“Earthlings” is a documentary narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. In an unnervingly calm voice, Phoenix describes the many ways humans exploit and inflict suffering on other animals, [...]
Making Plans…

I’m at home for two weeks, and then moving to DC to start my new job/life…it’s such a major transition, and kind of hard to wrap my head around, but I’m getting really excited about all these changes! Characteristically, I’ve been doing a lot of planning and list-making about everything I want to do this year…ranging [...]
Graduation, etc.

Wow, so I feel like I’ve been MIA forever, but I think it has only been a week or so. Like everyone else, May is a crazy month for me–I had final exams a couple weeks ago, then went to the Adirondacks with some friends for a week, and now I’m back at school for [...]
Why Compassionate Cooks is Amazing

I’m embarrassed that in three months of blogging, I haven’t yet written about Compassionate Cooks. In my defense, I’ve been planning to for a long time, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to do justice to the amazing work of Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. I was thinking of writing an ode, but I think my poor [...]
Skinny Bitch
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged Books, Skinny Bitch on May 13, 2008 | 3 Comments »
I made the mistake of getting Skinny Bitch from the library during finals week, so of course I spent all afternoon yesterday reading it instead of memorizing Gothic cathedrals! Totally worth it though, I loved the book!
I was expecting it to be entertaining, but I assumed I wouldn’t be surprised by the information…but I was wrong! [...]
Birthday Presents!
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged birthday, cookbook on May 4, 2008 | 2 Comments »
Yesterday was my birthday–22! May birthdays tend to be overshadowed by all the other things going on in May, like exams, end of school, and (this year!) graduation…so I didn’t do anything very exciting, but it was nice to have a good excuse for a lazy day! I did get some very exciting presents–one of [...]
Hidden Perks :)

None of these are reasons to go vegan (although some are pretty convincing!), but rather some of the happy surprises about being vegan…
1. You don’t smell! Seriously, I rarely wear deodorant anymore, and I really don’t smell at all. Why, you ask? Because I don’t have toxins from rotting flesh oozing out of my pores!
2. [...]
All the Small Things

Often, when I am with friends or at a party or something, I get offered a non-vegan snack or desert–most people get that I don’t eat cheese, but they forget that there are also plenty of animal products in cookies, muffins, snack foods, etc. My first reaction is automatically ‘No-it’s not vegan, so I won’t [...]
